Weald ground out a win against a weakened Outwood team on Saturday by a slim 2 wickets. Weald losing the toss and bowling first immediately started where they had left off from the week before against St Lawrence by removing the top and middle order in quick succession. Looking down and out at around 70-6 Outwood dug in struggled on to 135 all out. Weald set about the target nicely with Balcombe (34) sticking around, supported by Loukil (13), Clive (23) and Greg Blackman (30*). However Weald's frequent middle order collapse occurred again and looked like it might ruin the day for visiting Weald side, but the superb, mature head of Blackman saw them home hitting a four in the 35th over to see Weald home with two wickets to spare. Weald are doing well to keep grinding out results despite having regular batting failures. Weald won by 2 wickets.

St Lawrence: 35 ao
St Lawrence winning the toss and deciding to bat on their own ground, never seemed like a bad decision for their 11th league game of the season, but things could not have gone more wrong. Weald fired up after a bad loss to Bidborough last week came straight out of the blocks with Ryan Addison (2-14) and Josh Salter (4-12) ripping through not only the St Lawrence top order, but the middles and lower order too! The two youngsters were unplayable and bowled with aggression and maturity to give Weald one of their best bowling performances in a long time. None of the St Lawrence batsmen got into double figures recording 6 ducks, and were only helped out by the extras to reach an embarassing 35 all out. Oh and perhaps I forgot to mention the superstar bowling of captain Dave Stringer coming on first change to take 3 wickets in 4 and complete his hatrick!! What a performance by Weald, removing the opposition in just 10.4 overs. So with 36 to get, Weald were steady in reply and despite losing a couple of wickets they cruised home in 10.2 overs winning by 8 wickets. Super stuff by Weald, a competent display and now climbing the table once again. Weald won by 8 wickets.

Weald vs. Sissinghurst
Weald: 200 - 9

Weald continued their recent return to form by completing another win, this time away at Sissinghurst. Batting first at the lovely Sissinghurst ground, openers Steve Balcombe (31) and Karim Loukil (19) got off to a good start against a decent bolwing attack, until Loukil missed a full toss and was sent back to the pavilion. Weald's next two batsmen Dave Clive and Tim Stringer also failed to stick around, and so it was left to Ryan Addison (50) and Alistair Brooker (35) to rebuild the innings. Putting on 92 for the fifth wicket, they lifted Weald out of danger and on their way to a decent and defendable 200-9 from 40 overs. Addison in particular was superb in constructing a very mature innings for his deserved 50. A fine tea in between the innings, perhaps started Sissinghurst's reply a little slowly, but it was probably more to do with the excellent discipline from Weald's opening attack of Ikram Farid (1-29) and Ryan Addison (0-37) who constantly kept the batsmen on their toes, focusing more on staying in than perhaps scoring the runs needed. Scoring only around 70 runs from the first 20 overs, the pressure was on for the home side to step up their run rate to reach the Weald target. However, the scintillating Josh Salter with figures of 2-29 from his 9 overs constantly gave the top order problems, and was too hot to handle! With a mixture of controlled and aggressive quick bowling he never allowed the batsmen to get going, building pressure and frustration for the home side. A few wobbles from Weald in the field made the game a lot closer than perhaps it should have been, but with a thrilling end to the innings, and with 4 run outs for the last 4 wickets, Weald got home in style, eventually winning by 14 runs. A great game played in excellent spirit and with all the excitement the game was enjoyed by all. Weald won by 14 runs.

Weald: 151 - 4
Groombridge: 150 ao
Weald's 8th league game of the season was at home against fellow promoted divsion 2 side Groombridge. Fielding first, Weald got off to a great start removing both of the openers in the first couple of overs, and immediately causing problems for the incoming batsmen. Superb opening spells by the pacey Ryan Addison (3-43) and the clever Ikram Farid (2-29) created quite a few chances and with a much improved fielding performance from last week's game, Weald were able to convert the chances into wickets. None of the Groombridge batsmen dug in apart from T. Bayley (42) and he batted sensibly to last out most of the overs, supported by J. Woolgar (36) and C. Piper (20). Weald pushed on and the dangerous Dave Clive (4-35) was able to clear up the tail to restrict Groombridge to 150 all out from 34 overs. Needing just 151 for victory, Weald started sensibly knowing that 4 an over would be enough for the win. Steve Balcombe (24) did well to support Dave Clive (50*) in some tough bowling conditions, and after Balcombe and Loukil were removed captain Dave Stringer came in to push the score on, playing some nice shots for his 31. It was Clive however that stuck around building a solid innings and scoring the winning runs with Ryan Addison (14*) to bring Weald a much deserved league victory with 5 overs remaining. Let's hope that Weald now build some confidence for the games over the next few weeks to ensure they stay in the top division. Weald won by 6 wickets.

A nice hot Sunday in lovely Fordcombe hosted this interesting game between the home side and Weald. Batting first Fordcombe got off to a good start, taking full advantage of Weald's missing and late players. One of the openers reached his hundred before some good work behind the stumps from Alex Line ended his innings. None of the other batsmen stuck around that long and in the end Fordcombe declared on 197-9 from 44 overs. Pick of the Weald bowlers were Graham Southwood (3-28), James Derbyshire (2-26) and Ryan Addison (2-33). Weald's poor form with the bat in the league games appeared to continue in this game also as only Martin Addison (40) and Ian Hindley (25) troubled the scorers. 10 man Weald fell 88 runs short, lasting just 34 overs. A deserved win for Fordcombe played in excellent spirit. Weald lost by 88 runs.

Plaxtol: 165 - 8
On a day when England's Robert Green demonstrated the value of the long barrier, Weald won the toss and inserted Plaxtol on a damp wicket at the Home of Cricket. Weald were soon in amongst the Plaxtol top order, reducing them to 52-5 thanks to some good bowling and loose shots. The ship was steadied by a mature and classy knock by Mark Taylorson (47), ably supported by Rob Cartwright (31) and Rich Court (18), and gradually they kept the score nudging up. When Court departed, Taylorson followed swiftly, leaving David Till (19*) and Luke Sanders to push Plaxtol over the 160 mark, ending on 165-8. With appetites sated by South Africa's finest pickle sandwiches, Till took the new cherry and delivered a masterclass. His first wicket was a beauty, the 3rd ball of the innings jagging back up the hill to clip the top of off, with the batsman having shouldered arms. There are only 2 types of leave as they say, and this was not a good one in hindsight. The pressure was intense with only the odd boundary at the other end. In fact the batsmen only crossed once in the first 17th overs. Till (4-15) took 2 more before the first change pairing of Francois Cilliers (1-18) and resurgent Phil Perry (3-20) kept up the pressure. Weald lost wickets regularly and it was left to Till, returning to claim his 4th, and inevitably Cartwright popping up with the final wicket, to give Court his 3rd catch of the day, to see Plaxtol home to a 54 run victory.

After last weeks victory Weald were on a high, soon to be a low! Winning the toss and electing to bat only opener Steve Balcombe (40) Ian Hindley (32) and Tim Stringer (21) made the scorer do any real work. Tight bowling early on by evergreen Kershaw and a super spell by Ian Milton, 4 for 36 off his 9, and skipper Hall, 3 for 29 off his 9, knocked the stuffing out of Weald and they capitulated to 140 all out in 39 overs. In reply Weald wanted early wickets to set up any chance of victory. A fiery opening spell by young Addison 1 for 35 and returning Ikram Faried 1 for 19 had Outwood in trouble at 9 for 2, but M Lane 65no and M Cleaver 47no set up a rearguard action, playing and missing regulary for 10 overs, but eventually taking full comand of a lacklustre bowling attack and seeing Outwood home in the 33rd over. A lesson learnt for Weald, 30 to 40 more runs and victory could well have been theirs. Roll on the return fixture and a better effort perhaps! Weald lost by 8 wickets

Weald vs. St Lawrence
Weald: 164 - 8
St Lawrence: 161 ao
Weald registered their first victory in the top flight this weekend with a nail biting encounter against St Lawrence. Losing the toss and being asked to field Weald got off to the greatest start possible trapping opener Young LBW first ball with young Ryan Addison producing a jaffer of a delivery. Addison struck again to remove the other opener and St lawrence were 17-2. Debutante Boland regained some control with a steady 20 before falling to the re emerging Steve Balcombe with his first bowl of the season. However it was the classy Matt Young who looked to demoralise the Weald attack his hard hit 61 contained some ferocious strokes that looked to take the game away from the home side. But, seeming to lose concentration in a wayward over from the pacey Salter, missed a straight one and was bowled. Salter also cleaned up the dangerous Corrie Thompson and Weald were back in the game. St lawrence looked to reach a total that they could defend. Steady bowling by James Cox and Dave Clive kept it tight and the tail never wagged finishing all out for 161 in only 27 overs. Best figures went to Clive 3-11 and Addison 3-26 With the early finish to the St lawrence innings Weald had a dodgy 7 overs to face before Tea could be served. And Dodgy they certainly were. Clive and Stringer both falling before the end of the 3rd over and Weald were reeling at 7 for 2. Karim Loukil (22) and Steve Balcombe (13) steadied the ship and Weald were at tea 35-2. St Lawrence changed the bowling after tea and after a couple of uneventfull overs J Boland turned up the pace getting both Loukil and Balcombe edging behind. It needed a captains innings from Dave Stringer and he dug in, despatching the bad ball but holding firm. Boland wasnt finished though and he ripped out numbers 6 and 7 in the same over leaving Weald teetering at 62 for 6. Ryan Addison, batting at 8, showed maturity behond his years and batted confidently with his skipper reaching his 50 in style with a clip through square leg for 4 and in doing so got Weald to within 17 runs of victory. This game wasnt over yet and 2 balls later Addison played all over a short ball that kept low and was bowled for 50. 17 needed 3 wickets in hand and overs to spare, it was all over surely. Stringer reaching 45 with an overthrown 5 then clipped a full toss to Turner and Weald still needed 5 for victory. It was left to Josh Salter and James Cox to see them home and after reaching 160 with 'keystone cop like' running needed 2 runs. They batted out 11 dot balls before an overpitched leg side delivery was put away by Cox for 4 to grant weald their first Div1 victory. J Boland 4-24 was pick of the bowlers. Weald won by 2 wickets

Bidborough: 216 - 2
The 2010 league season didn't start off in the best of weather, but this didn't detract from a competitive and compulsive match between Bidborough and the new side in the the league Weald. Bidborough won the toss and decided to bowl in the winterish conditions. The Weald opening batsmen started well against a lethargic Bidborough side, with D Clive 48 and S Balcombe 64 putting on 118 for first wicket in fairly quick time. After the second rain break tea was taken early with Weald on 147 for 3 after 26 overs. This break was the recipe for Bidborough to switch back to their expected level and with a wicket first ball back by Mark Mitchell who was the best Bidborough bowlers on the Day, 3 for 38, the pressure was applied back on Weald with wickets falling regularly, Weald were dismissed for 214 in the 40 over. Only Loukie with 17 and D Stringer 22 made any meaningful contributions. The best of the other Bidborough bowlers were Trett 1 for 35 Andy Eames 2 for 33 and Sam Howes 2 for 5. The Bidborough reply started brightly, but when Sam Howes fell for 14 with the total on 30 the Weald tails were up. A drop catch in the slips when Rossiter was still on 0 would have further improved their position. Instead James Baldock with 111 n.o with one of the best and most destructive innings seen at the Rec in a while, and a fine 64 by Rossiter added 173 for the second wicket in 20 overs sealed in the end a fairly comprehensive victory in 26.5 overs by 8 wickets. It was a good competitive first game of the season with Weald clearly demonstrating they will be a strong competitive addition to the 1 Division in 2010. Weald lost by 8 wickets.

Weald's fielding was superb and was entertaining the crowd with impressive athletic diving catches and run outs.
