Weald once again produced a fantastic display of batting and bowling to see off the team leading the League for the second week running. Last week it was Hadlow, this week it was Groombridge that felt the full force of Weald with some disciplined bowling and fielding seeing Weald to victory by a brilliant 24 run margin. Weald's suffocating bowling and fielding combination starved the visitors of runs and they never looked like reaching the Weald target of 192. Another superb win for Weald who are hot on the trail of promotion.
Weald kept their hopes of promotion alive by beating Hadlow who had previously sat top of the League, by 2 wickets in a low run thriller. Losing the toss and bowling first, Weald restricted Hadlow to 147 all out with 4 overs still to go. Losing early wickets Weald struggled to reach the target, but Stuart Seal batted almost the entire innings to steer Weald to victory in the end by a margin of 2 wickets.
A close finish against Otford handed Weald victory by only 6 runs. Weald's third League game of the season ended well and lifts them back up to third in the table ahead of last years league winners Shoreham. Next week's game comes against Hadlow who are sitting at the top.
Weald's first League game of the season was against Crockham Hill, and right from the off Weald looked in control scoring a decent total and bowling out the home side for under 130 runs. This lead to a comfortable victory by 95 runs gaining 16 points.
Through the fantastic work of Graham and Johnny Fenn, Alan and Ian Hindley Weald have managed to secure and install a new storage container for the ground to keep all machinery and ground maintenance products safe and dry. This new installation will hopefully signal the start of major regeneration of the Weald Cricket Ground over the next season.
